Lee Marten is a 48-year-old Vancouver Police Department sergeant who served 18 years with the VPD and 14 years in the Canadian Armed Forces before being diagnosed with ALS in 2025. On May 20, 2026 he became the first Canadian living with ALS to receive a Neuralink implant, which lets him control a computer and phone using his thoughts. His surgery was also the first in which Neuralink inserted the electrode threads through the dura instead of cutting it open, the least invasive version of the procedure so far.
Patient details come from the patient's own public posts, Neuralink, trial sites, and news reports. This page is general information about an investigational device and is not medical advice.
